So I've been listening to a lot of country music the past couple of months. And I remember when I was 5 years old or younger, when we would go visit my grandmother, she used to always make me these mix tapes of random songs which mostly consisted of country music and featured more than a few of the songs I have been revisiting as of late. Sometimes me and her would also watch the music videos for some of these songs on a television channel called TNN, short for "The Nashville Network". Their base of operations was in Opryland USA, near Nashville, Tennessee. They didn't play country videos on MTV, and at the time, VH1 didn't play them either (I don't think they did at least. It was so long ago, was too young to remember). If you wanted to see country music videos you had to put on either TNN or CMT, the latter of whom I'd say was actually more popular and successful than the former was despite the subject of this thread. While revisiting some of the songs I mentioned and remembering how I would see the music videos for some of these songs on the channel as a youngin during those visits to my grandmother, I was researching The Nashville Network and it came to my attention that they were also involved with the gaming industry. Most of the games they put out were fishing games though, and at least two of them were driving games. I think it's kind of strange that a TV channel known for playing country music videos and country music-related programs was involved with any kind of video game endorsing at the time. I'm pretty sure none of the kids I knew at school during that time were into country at all. They were more into stuff like Biggie, Tupac and Nine Inch Nails. Our parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles were the ones listening to country during this time, because when you're 10 years old (at least in the mid 90's), you don't care about that kind of music. You either want to bang your head and rock out, or bop your head and bust out some rhymes, or both. And the kids of that time sure as hell weren't going to get down to any country music like the adults and elderly were. But I digress. Here's a look at the games that TNN lent their endorsement too. Should I ever hypothetically buy any of these I guess I have something I can play while listening to any of the country music I mentioned I've been listening to the past few months. Not that I expect any of them to be good except for maybe one of those two driving games. I could imagine a Sega CD game endorsed by TNN back in the 90's featuring redbook audio of stuff like Randy Travis, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Vince Gill, Diamond Rio, Tracy Lawrence, Garth Brooks or almost any of the most famous country stars of that time period after discovering this. Kinda like they did with the Sega CD port of Road Rash, only it's country and not rock and roll, and it's not a motorcycle racing game.
But first, TV commercials! Yes they made TV commercials for a freaking fishing game! I bet this must have been a hard sell. XP
